I stood holding the SF Chronicle, mouth agape at the image splashed across the front page of the paper. I had heard that near-record swells had been rolling in near Santa Cruz, but words really don't do these 80-foot waves justice. Yeah, that's an eight-story building.
The front-page story talks about a surfer who cheated death after being swallowed by a giant wave -- then went right back out and caught another one.
