Walking In Wuhan

China down. California to go.

Seems Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is taking some careful steps into cyberspace with a blog that he occasionally updates. The fiery leader, who was vilified in his recent visit to Columbia University, doesn't stray far from his usual diatribes on his blog, condemning Washington's policies at every turn. He gives his opinions on how a leader should run a country and occasionally adds litte features about the entourage that follows him on official trips.

But here's the best part. Ahmadinejad accepts reader comments and barely censors any. His blog is available in Persian, Arabic, English and French. He's promised to spend at least 15 minutes per week on the blog -- a sign that he's willing to adopt some of the West's ways. Nevermind the fact that some bloggers in Iran have been censored -- including Ahmadinejad's own blog. So now, my daily progression of blogs I check will read: "Vankat, Lulla, Overmyer, Schilling, Ahmadinejad." No word yet on whether Vladimir Putin is on blogger.

The first and last time I'll ever be mentioned in the same sentence as a head of state.

Mahmoud and Me. Sounds like a TV show.

Scene: Sitting around a small breakfast table, early morning light spills into the kitchen. Ben is eating Wheaties. Mahmoud is staring angrily at the box.

Ben: What? What are you looking at?
Ahmadinejad: You Americans and your stupid sports hero worship! What is it with you people?
Ben: Dude, it's Tiger Woods. How can you hate Tiger Woods?
Ahmadinejad: He is just another capitalist, Zionist pig, twisted by corporate interests and blinded by greed.
Ben: Yeah, but he's freaking good at golf and his wife his hot.
Ahmadinejad: *shakes head, slowly, sadly* You just don't get it, do you?
Ben: Apparently not, man. Aren't you going to be late for work?

Seems like a follow-up to 1980s smash-hit "Perfect Strangers." You know, Larry Appleton was a journalist.
