would the core sell for $716? A fantasy sports site recently paid $716 for a discarded apple core used by Tiger Woods during his U.S. Open playoff with Rocco Mediate. From the E-Bay description: "After eating an apple on the 16th tee, Tiger Woods hit all four fairways, all four greens in regulation and a birdie on No. 18. This is the apple core that will make history." This now replaces the woman who bought Ty Cobb's dentures as the most random sports memorabilia purchase of all time.
I'm not sure what's more amazing, that somebody paid that much for an apple core that will one day decompose, or that a guy had a zip lock bag on hand ready to catch any errant, discarded fruit.
